Welcome to the online presence of the CYO/Youth & Young Adult Ministry Office for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. This site offers many resources and opportunities for those working with junior high youth, high school youth, and young adults to better engage them with their Catholic faith through the vibrant faith community that is the Church. The site is organized into the following major areas: events and programs of the office, resources and support for youth and young adult ministry, and a personalized account area for youth ministers that includes insurance management, discussion forums, and directories. All areas contain downloadable documents and links to further resources.
NCCYM 2012 - Living in the Light
It’s time to start thinking about the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry. This national gathering of adults working in Catholic youth ministry takes place in even-numbered years and was last held in December 2010 right here in New Orleans. If you attended, then you are familiar with the inspiring keynotes, informative workshops, the networking opportunities, and an amazing resource exhibition. NCCYM 2012 will be in Orlando, Florida, at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel and Conference Center. With either a full-day drive or a quick direct flight to Orlando, the destination is easier than most for us in greater New Orleans. Please see the attached flyer, mark the dates on your calendar, and start thinking about attending. The CYO Office will send information to pastors over the summer to advise them of this great opportunity. We will assist in organizing your travel and participation as well.
Relay for Life 2012
We are happy to report that three adults from our parish youth ministry programs have volunteered to help
coordinate the event, and so planning for the American Cancer Society/CYO Relay for Life will resume. Leadership for the event will include Nicole Godfrey from St. Raymond-St. Leo Parish, Gail Adams from St. Catherine of Siena, Shawn Caballero from St. Christopher Parish, and Judi Gutierrez from St. Clement of Rome. The Relay for Life is held as a collaboration of the parish youth ministry programs; the CYO Office provides communication and logistical support.
1st Meeting—Thursday, May 17, 2012, at 7:00 PM at St. Clement of Rome. The agenda will include selecting a theme, making parish assignments, and reviewing plans for the event. Any parish youth group wishing to participate in relay this year must have an adult and preferably two teen representatives at the meeting. With new coordinators this year, it is important that participating parishes be present at the meeting.
2nd Meeting— Thursday, June 21, 2012, at 7:00 PM at St. Clement of Rome.
Registration/Bank Night—Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at 7:00 PM at St. Clement of Rome
Relay For Life— Friday, July 13, 2012 – Saturday, July 14, 2012, at St. Clement of Rome
CLI Registration -- Limited Space Remaining
Catholic Leadership Institute, a nationally recognized program, has been empowering the young church for over twenty years to become leaders in their parish and high school settings. While there are many leadership training opportunities available through other programs such as student council, CLI is unique in that leadership principles and practice are presented through the lens of Gospel teaching and values. While this is not a retreat, it involves some of the same community dynamics familiar at adolescent retreats. The five days of intense learning and training will include skills training, prayer and worship, and "learning by doing" where participants become responsible for leading others during the institute. A team of young adults and youth ministers from across the archdiocese lead this week -long leadership training.
